American Museum of Natural History
Founded in 1869, the American Museum of Natural History is the largest natural history museum in the world. The museum complex, located in New York City, contains 45 permanent exhibition halls, a planetarium, and a library. Its collections contain over 100 million specimens of plants, animals, fossils, minerals, rocks, meteorites, human remains, and human cultural artifacts, as well as specialized collections for frozen tissue and genomic and astrophysical data. Dia Beacon is one of the largest exhibition spaces in the country for modern and contemporary art. Located in a former Nabisco box printing factory overlooking the Hudson River in Beacon, NY, the museum presents the Dia Foundation's collection of art from the 1960s to the present, as well as changing special exhibitions and public programs. Permanent collection holdings include artworks by artists who came to prominence during the 1960s and 1970s, including Joseph Beuys, Dan Flavin, Donald Judd, Agnes Martin, and Andy Warhol.

This institution was the model—and the first—of the Presidential Libraries administered by the National Archives. The Library contains over 17 million pages of documents, including the personal papers of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, and those of various individuals and organizations associated with the Roosevelts. In addition, the collection contains over 130,000 photographs, as well as audio recordings and motion pictures, including those relating the New Deal, World War II, and the famous Fireside Chats. The museum contains artifacts related to lives and careers of the Roosevelts and items that reflect the political, social, military, diplomatic, and cultural life in America during the 1930s and 1940s. Mid-Hudson Discovery Museum
Located in the heart of Poughkeepsie, the Mid-Hudson Discovery Museum captures the imaginations of its 80,000 yearly visitors with a variety of hands-on exhibits aimed at children 12 and under. The museum's core values include school readiness, health, and community-building, and it showcases these with exhibits that focus on early literacy, early STEM knowledge, art, and wellness. Spread across five galleries and a children's garden, the museum's offerings include the Early Learning Junction, a playground that prepares children ages zero to four for school, science exhibits exploring magnetism and fluid dynamics, and the WonderDome, an immersive play space focusing on light and color. Several other spaces combine learning with the fun of play. The museum also puts on many events, a number of which are free with admission, including story readings, science demos, and even LEGO robotics. Just outside of the museum is the Poughkeepsie Waterfront Market, a seasonal farmer's market, another way the museum is integrated into the community. The museum is completely accessible and offers sensory aids upon request. While you may not bring food or drink into the museum, there is a Snack Zone for those amenities. In addition, there is a gift store on the premises.

Mohonk Preserve
Mohonk Preserve is a nature preserve in Ulster County, New York. It has over 8,000 acres of cliffs, forests, fields, ponds and streams, including miles of carriage roads and trails for hiking, cycling, trail running, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and horseback riding. It is also a major destination for rock climbers, with more than 1,000 climbing routes. There are four trailheads, one of which originates at the Visitor Center in Gardner.

Olana State Historic Site
Olana is the former home, studio, and grounds of 19th century Hudson River School artist Frederic Edwin Church. The unique main building is an eclectic mixture of styles, featuring stencil work on both the exterior and interior based on Church's travels in the Middle East and elsewhere. The interior of the house is much as it was when the artist was alive and includes a number of paintings by Church, his mentor Thomas Cole, and other artists within his circle. The 250-acre grounds represent a landscape designed by Church, through which visitors may walk on the many trails available. There is a Visitor Center and gift shop on the premises. The Frederic Church Center for Art and Landscape has a café. The nearby Hudson River Skywalk, a pedestrian walkway across the Rip Van Winkle Bridge, connects the site with the Thomas Cole National Historic Site.

Storm King Art Center
Originally founded to exhibit a collection of Hudson River School paintings, Storm King Art Center is a museum located on 500-acres in New York's Hudson Valley. Currently, the museum collects, exhibits, and conserves modern and contemporary art—from large-scale sculpture situated in Storm King's expansive landscape and site-specific earthworks to related drawings and photographs. The core collection includes pieces by Alexander Calder, David Smith, Mark di Suvero, Henry Moore, Douglas Abdell, Isamu Noguchi, Richard Serra, and Louise Nevelson. More recently acquired work includes large-scale sculptures by Magdalena Abakanowicz, Alice Aycock, Andy Goldsworthy, Alexander Liberman, Sol LeWitt, Roy Lichtenstein, and Maya Lin.
