Mid-Hudson Discovery Museum

Located in the heart of Poughkeepsie, the Mid-Hudson Discovery Museum captures the imaginations of its 80,000 yearly visitors with a variety of hands-on exhibits aimed at children 12 and under. The museum's core values include school readiness, health, and community-building, and it showcases these with exhibits that focus on early literacy, early STEM knowledge, art, and wellness. Spread across five galleries and a children's garden, the museum's offerings include the Early Learning Junction, a playground that prepares children ages zero to four for school, science exhibits exploring magnetism and fluid dynamics, and the WonderDome, an immersive play space focusing on light and color. Several other spaces combine learning with the fun of play. The museum also puts on many events, a number of which are free with admission, including story readings, science demos, and even LEGO robotics. Just outside of the museum is the Poughkeepsie Waterfront Market, a seasonal farmer's market, another way the museum is integrated into the community. The museum is completely accessible and offers sensory aids upon request. While you may not bring food or drink into the museum, there is a Snack Zone for those amenities. In addition, there is a gift store on the premises.
