Olana State Historic Site

Olana is the former home, studio, and grounds of 19th century Hudson River School artist Frederic Edwin Church. The unique main building is an eclectic mixture of styles, featuring stencil work on both the exterior and interior based on Church's travels in the Middle East and elsewhere. The interior of the house is much as it was when the artist was alive and includes a number of paintings by Church, his mentor Thomas Cole, and other artists within his circle. The 250-acre grounds represent a landscape designed by Church, through which visitors may walk on the many trails available. There is a Visitor Center and gift shop on the premises. The Frederic Church Center for Art and Landscape has a café. The nearby Hudson River Skywalk, a pedestrian walkway across the Rip Van Winkle Bridge, connects the site with the Thomas Cole National Historic Site.
